Every year the average American household spends hundreds of dollars on household cleaning supplies and over $50 a month is spent each month to clean your house!

Save money on cleaning supplies by buying from the Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree carries a lot of name brand cleaners people don’t think to look for there. With everything $1 that can be a big savings on things, you use often from Lysol toilet cleaner to Comet.

The lesser known brands they carry like L.A.’s Totally Awesome all-purpose cleaner and oxygen cleaner are both really great for cleaning your home and can clean just about anything.

Buy bulk bottles of your favorite cleaners to save money over time. Bulk concentrate bottles of your favorite cleaners can be diluted to make gallons of cleaner at a much lower cost than buying smaller bottles.

Just like everything else in your home, buying bulk can often drastically lower your overall cost.

Use Coupons and Sales to Get Discounts

Use coupons and sales to get discounts on your favorite cleaning supplies. Stores often rotate deals every few weeks. To save money buy enough of your favorite cleaners with sales and coupons to last you for several weeks between sales so you won’t have to pay full price.

Use Less Household Cleaners

Use less cleaning products. A lot of times we do not follow the directions and under dilute our concentrations causing us to use a lot more cleaning supplies than we need to. Measure everything out to avoid overusing your cleaning supplies.

Another way we often use too much is by applying our cleaners directly to the surface we are cleaning. Instead, apply your cleaner to your rag instead of the item you are cleaning.

Make Homemade Cleaning Supplies

Making your own cleaning supplies is a great way to save money. You can make the most basic cleaners with a few simple things like vinegar, baking soda, peroxide, and essential oils. There is really no need to pay for expensive cleaners if you don’t mind using basic things you probably already have around your house.

Here are a few basic homemade cleaner recipes:

All Natural All Purpose Cleaner

1/2 c white vinegar
2 Tbsp baking soda
10 drops tea tree, lavender, or lemon essential oil

In a glass spray bottle, mix the vinegar, essential oils with a little water. Add baking soda. After the fizz and bubbles subside, fill bottle to top with water. Before using, gently shake to remix. Spray on surface and wipe with clean cloth.

All Natural Soft Scrub

1 cup baking soda
1/4 cup castile soap
10 drops tea tree, lavender, or lemon essential oil
1 tbsp hydrogen peroxide
1 widemouth Mason jar with lid

Mix together the baking soda, castile soap, essential oil, and peroxide into a bowl. Stir mixture until well combined. Spoon mixture into a Mason jar and seal tightly with lid.

All Natural Window Cleaner

2 cups distilled water
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
1/4 cup white vinegar
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
8 drops lemon essential oil

Combine all of the ingredients in a spay bottle and shake well before use.

All Natural Laundry Soap

1 Box of Borax
1 Box of Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
2 Bars of Fels Naptha Soap

Grate the bars of Fels Naptha soap. Mix grated soap, borax, and washing soda together in a large canister. Use 2 – 4 tbsps of detergent in each washer load.
